DOWN'S SYNDROME - Chiara - 5°E

Down's Syndrome is a genetic disorder due to the presence of an extra chromosome 21.
There are three types of chromosome abnormalities:
1) Trisomy 21
2) Translocation
3) Mosaicism
Some of the physical features in children with Down's syndrome are: slanting of the eyelids, decreased muscle tone, loose ligaments, smaller ears, mouth, hands and feet.
50% of children have one line across the palm (it's a gap between the first and second toes).
The cause is still unknown. There isn't a cure available at the present time.
