Chapter 6 of Bone starts with Fone, Thorn, and the dragon arriving at grandmother's burning house. Thorn runs to find her, and sees that she's fine. Grandma had fought off the rat monsters. She tells Thorn and Fone that they should head into the city for the races. Then grandma talks to Bone alone while Thorn takes the luggage. Grandma asks Fone why the rat monsters would want him. Fone is unable to answer because he doesn't know. They wonder if maybe it was because of Phoney. Then, the chapter shifts over to Phoney's point of view. He's working in a bar with their cousin Smiley. They're talking about how they hope to win money at the races. Phoney is washing dishes when "the hooded one" appears. He tells Phoney that he is going to kill Fone. Smiley appears and "the hooded one" disappears. Then, the chapter goes back to Thorn, Fone, grandmother, and the cows arriving in the city. They're greeted by the owner of the bar who says he has two workers that look like Fone. Finally, Fone is reunited with his cousins. The chapter ends with "the hooded one" watching them and saying that they're safe, but just for now.
